Graeme Souness is fearing that Celtic are well on course for 10-in-a-row after showing their determination to hold off the Ibrox threat to title number nine.
The former Rangers boss has been linked with a return to Ibrox in some capacity in recent months but appears to be keeping a safe distance away as he reads the signs from his home in the south of England.
As recently as January there was little to separate the two Glasgow sides but since returning from their training trips to Dubai both clubs headed in vastly different directions.
Celtic took 28 points out of 30 despite difficult trips to Aberdeen, Livingston and Motherwell for the second time this season while Souness watch in horror as Steven Gerrard’s side lost to Hamilton, Hearts and Kilmarnock while drawing with St Johnstone and Aberdeen.
Speaking to BBC Scotland’s Sportsound show on Sunday Hartson said:
I was on a show the other day and Graeme Souness agreed with me in saying that if we’d got a resumption to the Scottish Premiership this season then Celtic would’ve widened the gap, extended their lead.
Because of the form they’d been in since coming back from Dubai, you couldn’t deny that. Graeme, in all fairness, praised Neil Lennon and said what a great football mind he has.
I feel the SPFL made the right decision. I don’t think Rangers had it within them to claw back the points difference and go on and win the league.
The Joint Response Group for Scottish football will meet with the Scottish Government on Friday to discuss the steps needed to resume football with the target being to begin the new SPFL season in August.
