Kris Boyd ignores the FACTS! to make ridiculous Hagi title claim

Kris Boyd is tipping Ianis Hagi to smash Celtic’s 10-in-a-row dream- because he’s not afraid to lose the ball!

The son of Ghorgie might have thought that the scene he walked into in January was over-hyped but it’ll be nothing compared to the expectations on the Genk misfit on his return to Glasgow.

Like every other pundit Boyd is more of a fan of the surname than substance. Hagi was actually at Ibrox as the SPFL title was presented on a silver salver to Celtic.

If the Romanian wonder kid had been able to inspire his team-mates to hold onto leads at Kilmarnock and St Johnstone and scrambled a 2-1 win over Hamilton Accies at home there would have been a five point difference between the two Glasgow clubs when football was suspended.

With two derby clashes still to be played and Celtic having played a game more the SPFL would never have been given permission to decide the final places based on average points per game.

Incredible as it may sound Hagi was involved in those three fixtures. Away at Kilmarnock he was replaced by Greg Stewart after 83 minutes, the score at the time was 1-1.

Away to St Johnstone he was replaced by Stewart after 77 minutes, his club were leading 2-1 at the time but Stevie May equalised.

At home to Hamilton Hagi played the full 90 minutes as the visitors won 1-0 as Celtic were held to a 2-2 draw away to Livingston.

Despite all that Boyd was on form as he told Sky Sports:

I was impressed by Hagi when he came in last season . He brings that little bit of X-Factor in that he’s prepared to risk losing the ball to make things happen, which I think is a big thing in football nowadays. There’s too many people who are robotic, pass the ball sideways and try to look good.

He’s a throwback in terms of driving forward and asking the defenders questions. When you’ve got someone like that who will thread balls through, strikers will thrive off it. It’s important that Rangers build a team around players like Hagi, Steven Davis, Ryan Jack to get the core of the team from the defence right through to the strikers.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Rangers can cause Celtic problems next season.

Boyd has previously tipped Joey Barton, Nicky Kranjcar, Bruno Alves, Alfredo Morelos and Carlos Pena to cause Celtic problems.
