John Hartson kept his diplomatic hat on when he appeared on Radio Scotland this afternoon.

The former Celtic striker was delighted to see his old club make it 9-in-a-row with Neil Lennon’s side already strong favourite to take next season’s title.

Gerrard has spent a fortune in two years trying to stop Celtic but has only succeeded in building up a mountain of debt as the trophies become part of the furniture inside Celtic Park.

The Ibrox boss needs major investment to put in a challenge to Celtic but Lyndon Dykes and Lewis Ferguson are unlikely to case Lennon too many sleepless nights.

Gerrard has said very little since watching his side get hammered 3-1 at home by Bayer Leverkusen but his day of reckoning can’t be delayed indefinitely.

Looking towards next season during his appearance on Sportsound The Sun reports Hartson saying:

Have I seen enough of Rangers to stop them? Well, nothing surprises me but Steven Gerrard’s got an enormous job to stop the ten.

There will also be pressure on Neil Lennon to achieve it, like there was on him to get the nine after Brendan Rodgers walked out on the club.

Can Rangers do it? With investment, with good form, it looks a ridiculously difficult job to do, to stop Celtic winning the ten but that’s why Gerrard’s there, that’s why they appointed him. They feel he is the man to do it.

The last two years he’s not won a trophy but that’s for the hierarchy to give him money to go and buy players, sell players. I’d imagine there will be a lot of movement in and out of Rangers.

Despite reports that Ianis Hagi has signed a permanent deal at Ibrox there has been no comment from the club about the Romanian starlet.
