Roger Mitchell has told the SPFL to bill ‘Rangers’ for £250,000 and demand an apology or hit them with a points deduction.

The formal SPL chief executive was reacting to the ‘dossier’ that was presented to the SPFL today which quickly brought a reply highlighting that there wasn’t a single shred of evidence presented to back up the allegations.

Mitchell was in charge of the SPL from 1998 to 2002 during which the contracts for Ronald de Boer and Tore Andre Flo were accepted. Token contracts were submitted with both players having their salary topped up through the Discount Option Scheme.

Around the same time Celtic signed Neil Lennon and Chris Sutton with their full salaries going through the SPL and SFA with income tax and National Insurance deducted and paid to HMRC.

The Ibrox club called for the suspensions of Neil Doncaster and Rod McKenzie on April 11 with the SPFL hosting an EGM on May 12 to discuss the call for an independent investigation.

That request was backed by Hearts and Stranraer but requires 32 of the 42 clubs to support it for an investigation to be held.
