Surprise development in Ajer interest

Leicester City have been distanced from any summer move for Kris Ajer.

The defender’s agent seems to be hard at work drumming up interest in his client who is under contract until June 2022.

Linking Celtic players with Leicester is an obvious move but the local website, Leicestershire Live is quite emphatic that there is no interest in the Norwegian.

Jordan Blackwell doesn’t hedge his bets with:

Leicester City have no interest in Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer and will not be pursuing a move for the centre-back this summer, LeicestershireLive understands.

City have consistently been linked with a host of Celtic stars since manager Brendan Rodgers made the move from Parkhead to the King Power Stadium last February. However, despite speculation, Norwegian international Ajer is not among City’s targets.

Leicester appear to be well off for central defenders with Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu well established as Brendan Rodgers’ first choice pairing.

Filip Benkovic had to o out on loan to Bristol City in January to get some meaningful game time with the young Croatian likely to be brought in if Rodgers is thinking of making a change.

After being signed by Ronny Deila then being loaned out to Kilmarnock Ajer has been a significant part of the Celtic defence over the last 18 months.

With his deal running until 2022 the next 12 months are vital with Celtic likely to sell the defender next summer if he doesn’t commit to a new contract.
