Aberdeen are hoping to have full houses at Pittodrie early in 2021.

Last week the Scottish Government gave the SPFL permission to prepare for the start of the 2020/21 season as scheduled on August 1.

The initial matches will be played Behind Closed Doors or to greatly restricted crowds but there are growing signs that social distance restrictions will be eased over the course of time.

Season ticket holders at Pittodrie and Celtic Park will get a virtual season ticket to stream home matches with the Dons looking optimistically towards the future.

This afternoon Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack stated:

We’re really excited about getting back to training later this month with a view to closed door games kicking off at the start of August and, whilst we appreciate we are operating under ever-changing circumstances, we’re preparing, and hoping, to return to Pittodrie with partial crowds from November or December and full crowds in January 2021.

Aberdeen have sold 6.400 season tickets for the new season after announcing a target earlier in the years of getting beyond 10,000 season ticket holders.

Celtic are due to meet Aberdeen in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup with the SFA holding back that stage of the competition until supporters are allowed back into stadiums.

Over the last two days the Polish and Italian authorities have discussed plans to have supporters back inside stadiums.
