All Over Folks- Another Invincible decides to move on

Craig Gordon has confirmed his Celtic departure.

The keeper’s contract expired at the end of May but at the age of 37 he has decided to go for first team football and the chance of regaining his international place ahead of extending his Celtic stay.

Gordon joined Celtic in the summer of 2014, instantly providing a quality replacement for Fraser Forster who joined Southampton for £12m.

In his first season behind Virgil van Dijk and Jason Denayer he was outstanding, overcoming any doubts after almost three years out of football after being injured at Sunderland.

When Brendan Rodgers replaced Ronny Deila he brought in Dorus de Vries but Gordon won his place back and attracted interest from Chelsea in January 2017.

Gordon remained Celtic’s first choice until January 2019 when Scott Bain took over following the winter break.

It looked like Gordon was back in favour when Bain was injured against Cluj last August but once Fraser Forster was signed on loan Gordon’s days were numbered.

With Gordon now out of the equation the importance of resigning Forster has been intensified.
