Billy Dodds believes that Lyndon Dykes is the player Steven Gerrard needs to stop 10-in-a-row.

In the season just finished Dykes scored nine goals in 25 SPFL appearances, picking up six yellow and one red card along the way.

Gerrard has signed 30 players since moving to Ibrox two years ago without getting close to Celtic in the title race despite the stream of noise and hype from his cheerleaders.

Kyle Lafferty, Umar Sadiq, Flo Kamberi and Greg Stewart have been brought in to deliver goals but the Ibrox challenge has been based around the temper of Alfredo Morelos and the ageing limbs of Jermain Defoe.

One season after leaving Queen of the South Dykes is now being hyped up to be the next big thing with Dodds telling The Sun:

Dykes would give them an entirely different option and give teams something extra to think about.

I saw him against Rangers twice last season and he was a handful. He gave the defenders a hard game. He did the same to Celtic as well. Dykes is surprisingly quick and he can play in behind.

His goal record last season was better than one in three and for a targetman that is good going. He is the perfect buy for Rangers and the type of player that Gerrard is going to need if he is to stop Celtic.

Rangers have to stop Celtic reaching ten in a row and this is the biggest season the club has faced in years. I have seen reports the boy Lyle Taylor is being linked with an Ibrox move as well.

He is a good player, there is no doubt, and he has gained a lot of experience in England over the last few years. Is he going to be good enough to be a starter to stop Celtic? I’m not so sure, but he would be a good option to have as cover.

The key to stopping Celtic is bringing in quality players who can have an impact, not just boys who are happy to be there. It seemed last season some of the boys were happy to be squad players.

Dykes has a year left on his Livi contract with Stoke City also reported to be interested in making an offer.
