Celtic have been linked with a pre-season friendly against Paris Saint Germain with the French champions also in talks to face Anderlecht. If Bayern Munich can get added they could recreate the 2017 Champions League group which Celtic would rather avoid.

With half of the leagues in Europe cramming in their remaining 2019/20 fixtures to the next five weeks there is a lack of possible opponents for friendly matches.

Scotland, France and Belgium were among the countries to curtail the 2019/20 campaign with those three nations all gearing up for next season.

Neil Lennon hinted on Friday about arranging pre-season matches with L’Equipe tonight reporting:

PSG should organize three or four friendly matches as part of its summer preparation. The first, against the club’s U19, on July 9, the second in Le Havre, on July 11 or 12, and two others on dates that will be determined based on those of the French Cup and League finals.

Discussions are also underway with Anderlecht and Celtic Glasgow, who could be opponents of the champion of France.

Travel would be minimal for a trip to the French capital although there are still restrictions on travel and quarantine regulations.

Celtic are scheduled to start their domestic campaign on August 1 but only SPFL Premiership clubs and teams in the top two English divisions are currently training.

Celtic lost 7-1 away to PSG in November 2017 after losing 5-0 at home to the French side on Matchday One.
