Owen Moffat has signed a new contract at Celtic- taking him into his 12th year at the club.

In the season just finished he was a regular in the u-18 side led by Darren O’Dea with the next step being to move up to the Development Squad.

As his long career at the club illustrates Moffat is a product of the Celtic Academy, surviving through the ranks from Primary School to sign professional contracts.

Every level of football in Scotland has been suspended since March 13 with Celtic’s younger players having to make do with fitness programmes, distant coaching and Zoom conference calls.

The structure for next season below first team level looks very uncertain with most clubs likely to be in survival mode, putting a first team on the park with little else below that at a professional level.

Last season Celtic took part in the Glasgow Cup and played five Reserve Cup fixtures but it didn’t provide much in the way of regular fixtures for players to develop.

Loan regulations may be relaxed next season but at the moment there is little that can be said with certainty as Moffat attempts to follow the path of serial title winners Callum McGregor and James Forrest.
