Hearts have announced the signing of Craig Gordon on a two-year contract.

While Ann Budge has been imposing pay cuts and issuing dire warning to players the Edinburgh side has gone on a mini spending spree by adding Robbie Neilson and Gordon to their wage bill.

After being Celtic’s first choice keeper from July 2014 Gordon was replaced by Scott Bain in January 2019 with loan signing Fraser Forster the first pick last signing.

Gordon has stated that a return to the Scotland squad is a priority but with the Championship season not due to start until October he looks like being out in the cold when Scotland kick-off their 20/21 campaign in September.

Last night Gordon confirmed his departure from Celtic, late this morning the Hearts website announced:

Heart of Midlothian Football Club is delighted to confirm that Craig Gordon has agreed to return to Tynecastle.

The Scotland goalkeeper has signed a two-year deal to rejoin the Jambos and will link up with the first team when it returns to training.

The 37-year-old has enjoyed a trophy and accolade-laden career, which began at Hearts when he joined the Academy in 1999.

On Wednesday Hearts will be at the Court of Session with Partick Thistle looking for compensation from the SPFL for their relegation to the Championship.

With Fraser Forster’s loan deal from Southampton expiring tomorrow Scott Bain will be the only goalkeeper at Celtic with first team experience.
