Neil Lennon is confident that Celtic will soon announce some new signings.

Since the title was won last month the loan deals for Moi Elyounoussi and Fraser Forster have ended while Jonny Hayes and Jozo Simunovic have both been released.

Lennon still has a squad stronger than anyone else in Scotland but a couple of positions need reinforcements with Chris Jullien and Kris Ajer the only recognised central defenders at the club.

Celtic’s season usually begins with Champions League qualifiers in the middle of July but those matches look like being pushed back a month.

Despite that extra leeway Lennon is keen to get started on strengthening his squad for the season ahead.

Asked about losing Hayes and Simunovic the Celtic boss told The Sun:

First of all, those two were brilliant servants. We are looking to develop and improve the squad and those are two positions we’re looking at, as well as a few others.

We had recruitment meetings on Thursday and Friday and hopefully we’ll get the ball rolling. That will create its own excitement.

Recruitment is a big part of management. Nick Hammond and his team have been working hard, even over the last month or two. We should have a couple of potential targets in mind now we’ve had those meetings.

Celtic return to training on Thursday with six groups of five players booked in at Lennoxtown.
