Deluded- Leigh Griffiths had a blunt message for the many detractors of Celtic’s Premiership title win.

Over 80% of SPFL clubs voted to end the season based on average points per game with the three lower divisions called instantly.

UEFA required special cases to be made for leagues being called early in order for clubs to compete in next season’s Champions League and Europa League competitions.

The board of the SPFL were given unanimous backing for that decision with Celtic’s score of 2.67 points per game made them champions for the ninth season running.

Ally McCoist and Alex Rae were on the case long before the vote with Gareth McAuley joining in with his claim that the 2019/20 title success was hollow and tainted.

A tainted title or an asterisk, I’m going to quote the gaffer here. To have one of them you have to do something illegal, we done nothing illegal, we played our football as well as we could and we’re 13 points clear and it looked like we were going to extend that. So, for us to be champions it’s fully deserved and anyone saying otherwise they’re deluded.

Griffiths signed off his season with a hat-trick in the 5-0 win over St Mirren on March 7 which turned out to be the final match of the season.

In the 10 matches that followed the winter break Celtic stretched their lead at the top of the Premiership from two to 13 points on top of a +25 goal difference advantage over their Ibrox rivals.
