Greg Taylor has relived his infamous red card against Joey Barton- the only ordering off of his career.

With just four SPFL appearances to his name he was listed in the Kilmarnock side to face Barton and Co at the end of August 2016.

Taylor feared that he would be released in the summer but the appointment of Lee Clark as manager opened the first team door with two appearances as Killie escaped relegation through a Play-Off win against Falkirk.

The television cameras were on Barton as he rolled into Rugby Park but by the end of the game Taylor was in the spotlight after getting a straight red card from Kevin Clancy for an over-enthusiastic ‘tackle’ on his celebrity opponent.

Everybody thinks ‘did you do it because it was Joey Barton’ but it wasn’t. A good pal of mine, Adam Frizzell, he was trying to break, he lost the ball with a heavy touch and I was trying to break with him. I got caught out, it was one each at the time and I genuinely thought that I could get there but looking back I was never getting there, never in a million years. Luckily, to be fair, he jumped it or the tackle would have been serious. Not a highlight but it’s happened, you can’t change it.

Taylor served his suspension but went on to make 38 appearances for Kilmarnock as he nailed down the left-back position. Three years after the Barton red card he left Killie in a £2m deal to join Celtic.
