John Barnes has continued to dig holes for himself as he engages with Celtic fans on Twitter.

Twenty years on from being sacked by Celtic the Liverpool legend is under the impression that the colour of his skin had a bearing on that decision rather than dodgy results.

According to Barnes other equally unsuccessful managers were given longer in the job- a claim that barely stacks up. Tony Mowbray was sacked after 45 games in charge, Barnes after 29 with neither seeing out their first season. In season 1999/20 there was a winter break, after returning to a draw at Kilmarnock Barnes was sacked following home defeats from Hearts and Inverness Caley Thistle.

Barnes will appear on the Celtic State of Mind podcast to give his side of events but his actions on Twitter don’t show any reason or logic.

Over the last few days the ‘latent racism’ of the Celtic support has voted for Jeremie Frimpong, Olivier Ntcham and Odsonne Edouard for club awards.

Skin colour wasn’t an issue for Henrik Larsson whose popularity survived returning to score with Barcelona in the Champions League.

Barnes has plenty of grounds to raise race issues on but going on about his own experience in management and the Celtic support isn’t doing him any favours.
