Les Ferdinand has warned Celtic that Jermain Defoe is going to stop 10-in-a-row.

The veteran former England striker has tried and failed to stop Celtic reaching eight and nine but according to the QPR chief his former team-mate at West Ham is about to bring a halt to east end title parties.

Defoe will turn 38 in October but has agreed a 12-month Ibrox deal with the SPFL Premiership title the only thing that matters in the season ahead.

Ferdinand told The Sun:

The pressure in Glasgow is always intense, but it will be cranked up even more next season given what’s at stake.

Jermain is the type of guy who will be so up for it. I know from my own experience when you are nearing the end of your career you start to see the finishing line.

Let’s be honest, Jermain will be in that position right now. But it can also give you a real boost. You know it is coming so you want to finish on a high. When I was 37 I joined newly-promoted Leicester and ended up being top goalscorer and player of the year.

That was purely because I could see the end coming and I was determined to have one last hurrah. Jermain is at that place now. And I have no doubt if he leads the line for Rangers next season he will be able to help them stop Celtic.

When Alfredo Morelos was suspended in January. Defoe was forced into starting four matches in 12 days, pulling up with a calf injury an hour into the 2-0 home win over Ross County.

He returned to action exactly a month later, failing to score in the Scottish Cup exit from Hearts or the home defeat against Hamilton.
