McGregor is backing Celtic’s new look striker

Callum McGregor is backing new-look Patryk Klimala to make an impact in Celtic’s 10-in-a-row bid.

The striker joined Celtic in January just as Leigh Griffiths rediscovered his form, leaving the Pole watching from the sidelines.

Klimala had scored seven goals in 14 appearances for Jagiellonia before his transfer but was restricted to just one start after the January break and three substitute appearances.

Moving to a new country to watch from the bench or the stand isn’t much fun but with his head shaved and physique bulked up McGregor is anticipating that the 21-year-old is ready to kick-on with his Celtic career.

He told the Daily Record:

There’s a few dodgy haircuts in the squad in fairness. A few of them boys have grown it out and are so scared to touch it! They might need to wait for the barbers to re-open.

Patryk has shaved his head a few times – he’s looking like a bouncer! He has come back looking in great condition. He’s obviously been working hard on the physical side during lockdown and he’s returned looking really strong.

The good thing is he’s still looked really quick in training. It’s important not to lose that half a yard of pace when you are starting to bulk up a bit. But he looks in top condition and raring to go –as are all of the rest of the lads as well.

Everyone has been really professional in their time off and are just looking forward to playing games again.

After two weeks of solo training McGregor and his team-mates are expected to be allowed contact training next week which will be a major step up.

Neil Lennon is hoping to take his squad abroad to play some friendly matches with reports from France suggesting a four team tournament hosted by Lyon.

Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard will start the new campaign as the first-choice strikers but a fit and able Klimala will be waiting in the wings to grab his chance.
