Greg Taylor has revealed that he felt his phone was blowing up after joining Celtic.

The defender had a year left on his Kilmarnock deal when interest from Celtic emerged in the closing weeks of the transfer window.

Kilmarnock were in no rush to do business but once the offer reached £2m on the verge of the window closing things started to happen.

Some Celtic fans thought that he would go straight into the side for the Glasgow derby at Ibrox on September 1 but it wasn’t until the following day that everything fell into place with a four year contract signed and sealed.

Asked about the build up to his Celtic move he said:

There was the odd message on my phone but it wasn’t too bad, I was just trying to blank it out. I would send back the odd ‘we’ll see what happens’ giving nothing away because I didn’t really know.

When it actually got finalised I remember going back in my agents car, Jackie McNamara, we were going back to Scotland because I had to leave the camp and my phone was blowing up! I couldn’t believe it. I t was mentoe! Truth be told I probably didn’t reply to some boys that I wish I had but I couldn’t because there was that many. It’s one of these things, a mentoe night.

It took until the end of October for Taylor to make his Celtic debut, a 2-0 home win over St Mirren.

Two more Scotland caps followed against San Marino and Kazakhstan before his next Celtic appearance but just as he was getting a run in the team he missed out on the League Cup Final after appearing for Kilmarnock earlier in the competition.
