One big issue emerged from the video clip that Celtic published from training today and that was the sight of Moi Elyounoussi going through his drills at Lennoxtown.

The winger joined Celtic on loan from Southampton at the end of August but when the season ended in March it was assumed that he would be back down the road to Southampton.

Elyounoussi played in 20 matches during his loan spell with a purple patch in the autumn when he picked up the October Player of the Month Award.

A foot injury early in November halted his progress but when fully fit he is clearly a matchwinner as Neil Lennon acknowledged.

His contract situation is something of a mystery. Even if his loan spell with Celtic runs until the end of June there seems little point in training at Lennoxtown for a fortnight before returning to Southampton.

The obvious conclusion is that there is a prospect of the Norwegian internationalist being a Celtic player next season.

Southampton shelled out £16m to sign Elyounoussi from Basel in 2018 with a five year contract signed up.

It’s highly unlikely that Celtic could match that fee and EPL wages but with his appearance at training another loan deal could be under discussion with all parties clearly interested.
