Jonny Hayes is set to sign a two year contract with Aberdeen tomorrow.

The winger was informed earlier this month that his Celtic contract wouldn’t be renewed with a return to Pittodrie instantly suggested.

Mixed messages have been coming out of Aberdeen in recent weeks with Dave Cormack warning that pay cuts were on the way as he attempted to manage outgoings of £1m a month.

Robbie Neilson spoke of taking the Irishman to Dundee United but with his own decision to quit the club for Hearts that option was ruled out.

Tonight the Daily Mail reports:

Former Celtic winger Jonny Hayes has agreed to return to Aberdeen despite late interest from Championship side Reading.

The 32-year old was a free agent after Celtic opted against offering him new terms earlier this month.

He will sign a two year contract on Monday as he prepares to add to his 207 appearances and 70 assists for Aberdeen.

Hayes earned the Dons £1.2m when he moved to Celtic in 2017. A broken leg halfway through his first season set him back but over the last two seasons he has been a very dependable left-back.

As well as picking up all the domestic medals Hayes scored two goals for Celtic, one at home to Aberdeen in December 2017 with the other, memorably, at Ibrox in September 2019 to clinch a 2-0 win after Odsonne Edouard’s first half opener.
