Celtic have put forward proposals to the Scottish Government to host ‘test events’ as part of the plan to allow fans back into sporting events.

Yesterday the Scottish Government announced that professional sport can resume but without fans paying to attend it isn’t viable.

Across Europe football is getting underway after being suspended in March but the return of fans in some form is essential as some sort of new normal is established.

With the highest capacity stadiums in the country Celtic and the SRU are working together to prove that it is safe for fans to return.

Since his ban from Celtic Park was removed Keith Jackson has come up with a number of exclusives involving Peter Lawwell, today he explains to Daily Record readers:

Record Sport revealed on Thursday that Parkhead chief executive Peter Lawwell has teamed up with SRU chief operating officer Dominic McKay to draw up a proposal which could see ‘test events’ held at both grounds to prove that spectator sport cam be brought safely out of lockdown by August.

And now we can confirm that the plan – which could see supporters reintroduced to both bio-secure bubbles on either side of the M8 for trials as early as next month – has been passed over to health officials at Holyrood.

The development came on the day that First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that the country has entered phase two of the recovery from the coronavirus pandemic – and confirmed that elite sport can return to action behind closed doors from Monday.

That has given the green light for contact training to begin and friendly matches to be scheduled over the coming weeks.

A source close to the talks told us last night: “The First Minister’s announcement has been very positively received. Discussions with the government about allowing supporters back into test events at Celtic Park and BT Murrayfield are ongoing and they have today been given the details of how this might happen.”

Talks are on-going between Celtic and various supporter groups ahead of the deadline for renewing Season Tickets on June 30.

The SPFL season is scheduled to start on August 1 with Premiership fixtures expected to be published next week.
