For previous generations of players it was the worst date in the calendar- returning for pre-season training.
Right up until the mid-nineties’ players used to enjoy a two month break, usually spent in Majorca or Benidorm as they let it all go knowing that they faced a fortnight of sweating off the effects of ‘sangria’.
Today’s footballer is an athlete, possibly a ballerina in Brown’s case, likely to work out every day during a two or three week break as they follow a close season plan laid out by fitness staff.

Three months after being sent home from Lennoxtown Brown was at the front of the queue to get back to training even if squad sessions are some way off.
Two groups of five will train at the same time, well apart from each other with a coach and medical staff monitoring activities from the sidelines.
There will be a lunchtime shift clocking in at Lennoxtown as well as a late afternoon stint as Neil Lennon gears his squad up for the opportunity to become the first Scottish club to win 10-in-a-row.
