Shameless Hearts are trying to entice Robbie Neilson to break his Dundee United contract and return to Tynecastle.

On Wednesday Hearts served papers on United from the Court of Session to deny them promotion with BBC Scotland used today to unsettle their manager.

Hearts have still to announce the departure of Daniel Stendel but have used the BBC’s in-house Jambo Brian McLaughlin to make their interest in Neilson public.

Hearts hope to bring Dundee United head coach Robbie Neilson back to the club to replace Daniel Stendel. Talks between the clubs are at an advanced stage and a deal could be confirmed in the next few hours.

Neilson, 39, led United to the Scottish Championship title this term, having done the same with the Tynecastle club in 2015 before leaving for MK Dons.

Under Ann Budge’s watch Neilson was undermined by Craig Levein who appointed Ian Cathro before combining the job of manager and Director of Football to horrific effect.

Levein was finally ‘released’ from his role as manager in October 2019 with Stendel appointed after a short spell with Austin McPhee pitching for the job.

With so much uncertainty at Tynecastle it’s highly unlikely that Neilson will ditch Dundee United unless there are serious issues behind the scenes. Budge is also attempting to appoint a Director of Football.
