James Tavernier has delivered his first rallying call of the season.

The former Wigan utility man is preparing for his fifth season in the top flight of Scottish football with that first winners medal still proving elusive.

Graeme Murty handed Tav the captaincy with Steven Gerrard standing by the full-back despite a string of high profile blunders and bottling out of taking a penalty kick against Celtic in the League Cup Final.

After losing to Hearts in the Scottish Cup- thanks to another blunder from Tav- he took to the club programme to tell fans that his team-mates couldn’t cope with the pressure.

Three months on that has all been put to one side with the arrival of Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin convincing Tav that he’ll finally get his hands on some meaningful silverware.

Speaking to the club TV service he claimed:

It’s fantastic to see, especially in the situation we are in. A lot of clubs are finding themselves in financial situations which are not on the plus-side for them but it is great to see we are doing business in early-doors to strengthen the squad.

It’s great to have Ianis back as he was a key part to us at the end of the season, and I have spoken to Calvin already and he is really excited to come up. So it is good we are strengthening the squad and showing the intent of what we mean this season

Tav is now the longest serving player at the club, the final reminder from Mark Warburton’s time at Ibrox.
