Leigh Griffiths is hoping that the lure of 10-in-a-row can ensure Odsonne Edouard stays on for at least another season at Celtic.

In normal circumstances the goal haul of a 22-year-old who has topped the club scoring chart for two seasons running would have his pick of clubs to develop his career.

Moussa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Virgil van Dijk picked up two SPFL winners medals before heading elsewhere but in June 2020 with two years left on his Celtic deal we aren’t living in normal times.

Some of the biggest clubs in Europe have asked players to take pay cuts or deferrals which has had a knock on effect on transfer speculation.

Splashing out big money on new faces after making cuts will be a hard sell with new signings going into a dressing room of uncertainty to kick off a new chapter in their career.

All of those factors will come into force when the transfer window opens with a central place in Celtic’s history on offer for those involved in casing next season’s title.

Griffiths will certainly be around next season and as he told the Daily Record he is hoping that he is joined by Edouard as Neil Lennon’s squad go for 10-in-a-row.

I want him to be here, 100 per cent. I see rumours all of the time that he is being linked with massive clubs, but don’t forget that we are a massive club as well, so we want him to stay.

If he stays one more season and plays as well as he has done over the last 18 months, he’d be a big, big asset in us reaching the Ten in a Row.

There is always going to be pressure at Celtic to win titles, but this one will mean a helluva lot more than some before.

It will be talked about for a long time. If we have signings coming in, it will be drummed into them quickly that this is the biggest season in the club’s history.

We are going for ten and it’s up to us as players to go out and deliver. We need to be at it from the first kick off. It’s about what we do. If we play our best football in games, we know we will win the league.

Edouard has picked up three SPFL winners medals since joining Celtic, initially on loan for the 2017/18 season.
