German publisher Kicker reports ‘Celtic is serious’ in their interest in Union Berlin striker Sebastian Andersson.

The 29-year-old has been a late developer, scoring 12 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances after Union won promotion to the top flight through the Play Offs.

With the new season kicking off at the weekend Celtic seem to be in a race to sign a striker with Albian Ajeti and Ivan Toney both strongly linked with joining the 9-in-a-row champions.

Kicker seems to have in-depth details of Andersson’s contract details with a new deal signed in February this year with get out clauses for offer from various leagues.

The list of people interested in center-forward Sebastian Andersson is long, now Celtic Glasgow could become a prominent contender. The Scottish champions will shortly submit an offer for the Swedish attacker to FC Union for six million euros. A French rival could also get things moving.

FC Union has been preparing for a possible departure of its top scorer for a long time, with Andersson playing with twelve goals and three assists in his first Bundesliga season in the focus of various clubs. In addition to Celtic, the French first division club Lille OSC could also become concrete and submit an offer.

Thanks to an opt-out clause, Andersson, who extended his contract with Union in February to 2022, can leave Köpenicker on regular terms and for a sum in the mid single-digit million range. The exact amount depends on the destination country. English clubs, for example, are said to have to pay up to 30 percent more than German prospects. According to kicker information, the clause expires in early August. Therefore, a decision about the future of the recently 29-year-old Sweden could be made in the next two weeks.

Andersson seemed to be having a journeyman career before moving to Union from Kaiserslautern as a free agent two years ago.

Celtic have had great service out of Swedish players in the past with the hoops needing little in the way of introduction.

Neil Lennon was pleased with Patryk Klimala and Leigh Griffiths in yesterday’s win over Hibs but also made it clear that he is looking to bring in another striker.
