Celtic are reported to have made an enquiry about Daniel Podence of Wolves.

In January the English side paid £17m to Olympiakos for the winger but so far he has made just five substitute appearances in the EPL.

Last summer Celtic signed Moi Elyounoussi on loan from Southampton in similar circumstances and although the Norwegian is back at Celtic for another season The Mirror is reporting Celtic’s interest in Podence:

Wolves head into this afternoon’s clash with Everton off the back of two defeats after three victories following the restart. And they do so amid rumours that Daniel Podence, their £17million signing from Olympiakos in January, is attracting attention.

Celtic head a list of clubs that have enquired about taking the winger on loan next season. But Nuno’s plans for him are unknown as he has barely played for his new club this term.

Podence was expected to play a significant part after his move from Greece but has failed to figure and has only just returned to the squad after spending a week in isolation following a trip to Portugal. Podence is again unlikely to figure at Molineux as Nuno prepares to stop the rot.

The form last season of Elyounoussi and Fraser Forster has reinforced Celtic as a club where the development of players is almost assured.

Podence started his career at Sporting Lisbon but moved to Greece after just 11 first team appearances.

The level of Celtic’s enquiry is unknown but as a left-winger it would seem strange with Elyounoussi and Mikey Johnston already competing for that position in the side.

Podance is under contract with Wolves until June 2024.
