Celtic have denied making a formal approach for Shon Weissman.

Overnight quotes emerged from Wolfsberger President Dietmar Riegler claimed that an offer had been made for the striker who scored 30 goals in 31 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga.

At 24-year of age Weissman fits the profile for a Celtic signing with Patryk Klimala and Vakoun Bayo also in that range.

With various agents operating for players and clubs’ enquiries, offers and formal offers can become blurred as everyone looks to get best value from a transfer.

Following up on the Riegler quotes The Sun reports:

He told Kleine Zeitung: “As you already know, he wants to go to Germany or England but we’ve not yet had any inquiries from there.

“Offers have come, amongst others, from Russia and Scotland, from Glasgow Celtic. Because of the Corona crisis, everything is different this year. The seasons in Germany have now ended.

“The clubs know where they will play in the coming season. I think the next few days will be interesting for Shon.”

But a Parkhead source has told SunSport that the Premiership champions have not made any formal approach.

Wolfsberger paid Maccabi Haifa £450,000 a year ago for Weissman but only offered a two year contract.

After his dramatic season in Austria now is the time to get maximum value with the striker scoring in the Europa League against Roma and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Celtic are bound to have Weissman somewhere on their transfer database, the exact level of their interest is unknown.
