Rodrigo Riquelme won’t be joining Celtic on loan.
A Spanish publication claimed that Celtic and Real Betis ‘were knocking on the door’ to take the winger on loan for a season from Atletico Madrid.
Celtic have taken players such as Patrick Roberts and Jason Denayer successfully on loan from Manchester City while at another level Southampton were pleased to send Fraser Forster and Moi Elyounoussi to the hoops last season.
Riquelme appears to be an exciting young talent but with James Forrest backed up by Karamoko Dembele on the right flank Neil Lennon is happy with his options in that area of the park.
The Daily Record reports:
Celtic have also been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid playmaker Rodrigo Riquelme but Record Sport understands the Hoops are not in the running to land the 20-year-old. Club sources dismissed reports in Spain suggesting Celts were ‘knocking on the door’ for the highly-rated kid.
With so much at stake in the season ahead it’s unlikely that Celtic will be looking to take any emerging talents on board.
Forster and Elyounoussi were brought in for very specific purposes with Lennon’s first XI almost picking itself.
Vasilios Barkas is expected to complete his move from AEK Athens today with a striker likely to be Lennon’s next signing target with strong speculation linking Albian Ajeti and Ivan Toney with moves to Glasgow.
