Celtic are reported to have tabled a bid of 5m euros rising by a further 1m to sign Vassilis Barkas.
Over the last week there has been growing speculation that Celtic are in talks with AEK Athens to fill their problem goalkeeping position.
The loss of Fraser Forster and Craig Gordon over the summer has left Scott Bain as the only experienced goalkeeper at the club.
The former Alloa and Dundee man has started four out of Celtic’s five pre-season matches but it now looks likely that a deal for Barkas is close to completion.

Vassilis Barkas remains the hottest name on the market for sale, from AEK. Something that is expected to happen this summer.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper of AEK is intensely occupied by Celtic. The Scottish team even made the first offer of 3.5 million euros + 1 million euros bonus to the Greek team. And of course he received a negative answer since they are quite low in relation to what AEK is looking for.
So far, although there was an estimate that he has submitted a new proposal with improved financial terms that will reach 5 million euros, we only had negotiations in terms of agendas.
However, the latest information that arrived today states that Celtic reached 5 million euros in its proposal, as we reported to you from Sportime . An amount that together with the bonuses goes up to 6 million euros.
Barkas caught the eye in 2018 when he helped AEK past Celtic in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.
Celtic were first linked with the 25-year-old back in October, as other keepers left it seems that interest has firmed up into negotiations and bids.
