Celtic are reported to be watching Mark McKenzie tomorrow.

The Philadelphia Union defender was first linked with the hoops a month ago with an obvious vacancy in central defence within Neil Lennon’s squad.

McKenzie, who turned 21 in February, made his debut for the US National Team in February with a move to Europe the next step as he develops his game.

Tomorrow Philadelphia Union play Sporting Kansas City.

Celtic will have every match in the MLS watched by someone, in January 2019 their scouting network identified and signed Manny Perez and Andrew Gutman although neither player has played a match in Scotland with doubts over their work permits.

McKenzie captained the USA u-20 side at the World Cup Finals in Poland last summer where he was a team-mate of Timo Weah.

Chris Jullien and Kris Ajer are Celtic’s first choice central defenders but after losing Jozo Simunovic the other options are Stephen Welsh, Hatem Abd Elhamed and Nir Bitton.
