Damien Duff believes that Callum McGregor could play for Barcelona.

The midfielder has come through the ranks at Celtic to become one of the most important players in the side.

Ronny Deila gave him a late debut at the age of 21 but under Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon he has become more and more influential in the most successful domestic period in Celtic’s history.

The 26-year-old finds time in every position on the park, is never rushed or pushed about and still finds time to hit double figures every season.

Duff spent just over a year working as first team coach to Lennon and John Kennedy, building a great rapport and appreciation of the players.

Speaking to Si Ferry on Open Goal he made special mention of Leigh Griffiths. Touching on his fitness issues before the weekend news he described the former Hibs striker as possibly the best finisher he has ever seen. High praise from the former Blackburn, Chelsea and Newcastle winger.

Tierney- I’d loved to have seen KT in his pomp, when he was fit but I didn’t see that in the eight games I was there. He was injured.

Working through the team, Frimpong got (Young) Player of the Year, amazing character, amazing to see so much from such a young boy. Fraser coming in, say no more about the big man. Ajer, Ajer is a Rolls Royce, absolutely love him to pieces.

McGregor is world class, I tell him this all the time. He could play in Barcelona. Absolutely, taking information, again just the King of simplicity, making the right decisions, world class. Brown has been world class for years, James on the right, his stats are absolutely ridiculous.

Far side Mikey, if Mikey stays fit my God what a winger you have there. Thun, up top, Odsonne, again, what a class act. Even the Griffalo, he doesn’t probably look the fittest at times but he’s possibly the best finisher I’ve ever seen. That slap, everything he does is side-foot, side-foot finish. Side foot, he just slaps it with his laces. Absolutely ridiculous. The lads I haven’t mentioned, there is just a ridiculous amount of ability in the squad.

There was 14 games left to play in the 2018/19 season when Neil Lennon took over as caretaker.
