Kris Boyd has launched a fresh attack on Leigh Griffiths after the striker was left out of the Celtic squad for the pre-season matches in France.

After drawing with Nice on Thursday night the Celtic boss delivered a scathing attack on the former Hibs striker who played a key role in last season’s title success.

There is plenty of history between Boyd and Griffiths with the Sun columnist predicting in December 2019 that the striker had until the end of the year to save his Celtic career.

After scoring against Kilmarnock in January Griffiths aimed his celebrations at the Sky Sports commentary team with Boyd reeling out inaccurate stats as he hit back after the match.

With Griffiths back in the dog house Boyd told The Sun:

Anyone doubting how much this potentially historic season means to Lenny got a stark reminder. No passengers are welcome. If anyone isn’t fully committed, the Hoops boss will be ruthless.

This title means EVERYTHING to Lenny and he must wish all the players had his drive and determination. Griffiths was first in his line of fire. It’s clear he has had enough of the striker’s rubbish off the pitch.

The lack of professionalism and the daft social media posts tipped Lenny over the edge. The Celtic boss may have appeared with his hair shaved — but he won’t tolerate players taking shortcuts.

With Patryk Klimala scoring against Nice the pressure on Griffiths has been increased with just two weeks to go before the start of the SPFL season.

Other than the games against Lyon tonight and on Tuesday against Paris Saint Germain Celtic have no other friendly matches arranged for Griffiths to get any match time.
