Steven Gerrard has demonstrated the extent of his title ambitions- by putting in a bid to get Flo Kamberi on a season long loan from Hibs.

The former Grasshoppers ace went on loan to Ibrox in January in a bid to stop 9-in-a-row but failed miserably with just one goal as Celtic crushed the so-called challenge from Ibrox. At Hibs he scored three times in the SPFL with Chris Doidge taking his place as first choice striker.

With doubts over the fitness of Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe turning 38 in October Gerrard is in urgent need of a striker to fill the gap left by Kyle Lafferty.

Breaking the news The Sun reports:

RANGERS want to bring back Florian Kamberi on another loan – but Hibs and the striker both prefer a permanent deal.

The 25-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Ibrox with Greg Docherty going the other way. Gers gaffer Steven Gerrard is now ready to let Docherty return to Edinburgh, this time on a season-long loan.

But as tempting as that is for the Easter Road hierarchy Hibs are also mindful of Kamberi’s current contract situation. The Swiss player’s deal is up at the end of the season, meaning they would lose him for NOTHING if he were then to move on.

Leaking interest in Scottish based players is a tried and tested Ibrox method to push transfers through by unsettling players.

Kamberi has already gone on record saying that it was a life long ambition to play for the 2016 Petrofac Cup winners with Hibs fans outraged at his comments about their club.

With no other interest likely to come in for the striker Hibs are likely to be faced with sending the 25-year-old back to Ibrox rather than have him drain wages for 12 months.

Gerrard has also been linked with an interest in Lynodon Dykes of Livingston and Lyle Taylor who is out of contract at Charlton.
