Celtic are reported to be making an improved offer for Vassilis Barkas.

The AEK Athens keeper was first linked with Celtic last October, on Wednesday Sport Time of Greece reported that a bid had been made with talks continuing to get a deal completed.

With just over a week to go until the start of the SPFL season Scott Bain remains the only goalkeeper at Celtic with first team experience.

The loss of Craig Gordon and Fraser Forster has forced the club into the transfer market although another deal for the Southampton keeper hasn’t been ruled out.

At 26 Barkas is reaching his peak with AEK likely to insist on a substantial sell on clause knowing the way that Celtic’s business model operates.

Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele have been sold for £44m profit over the last two years with Virgil van Dijk another example of players growing in value after playing at Celtic.

Barkas has two years left to run on his AEK contract, CLICK HERE for his Transfermarkt profile.
