Ewan Murray has delivered another angry attack on Twitter- this time aimed at the SPFL ad SFA rather than Celtic.

Hearts and Partick Thistle are appealing to the SFA against the vote of the SPFL to relegate them with the two clubs forming an alliance that is ensuring that their actions will long be resented by fellow clubs.

The two clubs decided to take the SPFL to the Court of Session rather than go to the SFA which has now resulted in a Notice of Complaint for taking their dispute outwith the game.

It is well established that footballing disputes are dealt with internally, firstly to the SFA then to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

If found guilty of taking the football authorities to the law of the land Hearts and Partick Thistle could have their SFA membership suspended.

The stance of the SFA is backed by UEFA and FIFA, if a civil action proceeded without action from the SFA the Scottish national team and Scottish clubs in UEFA competition could face sanctions.

Murray is the Guardian’s golf correspondent.
