Peter Lawwell is set to replace Stewart Robertson as a Premiership director on the board of the SPFL at Monday’s AGM.

The move continues the tradition of the two Glasgow clubs taking turn about at having a place at what is effectively the nerve centre of the Scottish game.

In 2018 Lawwell has elected alongside Alan Burrows of Motherwell and John Nelms of Dundee to represent the interests of the Premiership clubs.

BBC Scotland reports:

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell and St Johnstone chairman Steve Brown are set to be inducted on to the SPFL board for 2020-21.

The duo join Hamilton Academical’s Les Gray as Scottish Premiership voices, replacing Rangers’ Stewart Robertson and Alan Burrows of Motherwell.

Over the last four months the SPFL board has been at the centre of controversy as they dealt with Lockdown and the season being brought to an early end.

Hearts and Partick Thistle have taken their case to the SFA which casts a shadow over the start of the season in 13 days time.

Despite being informed by Ladbrokes last July that they were ending their sponsorship of the four divisions the SPFL has been unable to come up with a new sponsor.

Whatever its faults Scottish football is the most watched in Europe per head of population with few leagues able to compare with the media and news coverage that it attracts.

The board of the SPFL consists of three Premiership reps plus two from the Championship and two from League One and Two. Neil Doncaster, Murdo MacLennan and Karyn McCluskey make up the 10 person board.
