Neil Lennon has revealed that Celtic and Southampton did agree a deal for Fraser Forster to return on loan for another season.

Last week Moi Elyounoussi repeated his loan move but in midweek the prospect of a similar arrangement for the keeper went quiet.

Forster has two years left to run on his Southampton contract but had dropped to third choice when he joined Celtic on a season long loan last August.

Angus Gunn was dropped after the 9-0 home defeat from Leicester, yesterday Alex McCarthy was in outstanding form as the Saints beat Manchester City 1-0.

Forster’s status at St Mary’s is unclear but covering Lennon’s interview with Sky Sports after this morning’s fixture announcement The Sun reports:

Well we are looking at other options. There was a deal agreed between both the clubs and it’s gone quiet from the player’s side of things.

Like everything else, we would dearly love him back here but if that’s not the case then we’ll look elsewhere.

Scott Bain is the only goalkeeper at Celtic with first team experience, last week Craig Gordon signed a two year deal with Hearts,

Joe Hart and David Marshall have been linked with moves to Celtic but Forster remains Lennon’s first choice transfer target.
