A number of gossip websites and Twitter accounts are linking Steven Gerrard with the manager’s job at Bristol City.

According to The Sack Race the Liverpool legend is fourth favourite at 10/1. Former Brighton boss Chris Hughton is the favourite at around Even Money, Ryan Lowe (Plymouth) is priced between 3/1 and 5/1 with Michael Flynn (Newport County) ahead of Gerrard although Paddy Power has cut his odds down to 11/10.

On Saturday The Express ran with the ‘Gerrard for Bristol City’ story with no sign of denials from the hands on Ibrox media team. While The Sun and BBC Scotland reported on the story in The Express the Daily Record hasn’t got near it.

Despite failing to win a trophy in two years at Ibrox as a member of the Golden Generation of English football doors will always be available to the 40-year-old.

In December Gerrard and his backroom team at Ibrox signed new contracts tying them to the club until 2023 but Gerrard has to way up what impact a third season of failure will have on his future managerial ambitions.

Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown is apparently a genuine billionaire. If offered a massive salary and transfer budget to go for a place in the EPL the temptation could be hard to resist when compared with signing Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin to try and stop Celtic winning 10-in-a-row.
