Four years ago he was a mainly unknown kid chosen to lead a new era at the club. Tomorrow Moussa Dembele will be welcomed as an auld acquaintance when Celtic face Lyon. A lot has happened over the last few years.

For two of those them Dembele was the driving force in Celtic’s domination of Scottish football, he has moved on but the success continues under some old faces and a few new ones.

Dembele has progressed as well but maybe not quite at the rate expected. There has been speculation of a big money move to England but it hasn’t really got beyond the rumours stage.

Tomorrow Dembele will come up against a new French hero of the Celtic support. Chris Jullien has taken to the club much the same way as Dembele although he is in a less glamorous role.

The mutual appreciation will be on hold for 90 minutes, once the final whistle blows there will be no doubting the sincerity given by the Lyon striker as he wishes his opponents good luck for the season ahead.
