A week before the SPFL season gets underway Neil Lennon has delivered a bleak transfer update.

Despite the significance of going for a 10th successive title Peter Lawwell has failed to secure any permanent transfers for the manager who kept the winning run on track when Brendan Rodgers jumped ship.

Celtic are light on options in goals, central defence and on the left wing but it appears that no new arrivals are in the pipeline as the countdown gets serious for the new campaign.

Discussing the transfer situation BBC Scotland reports:

Lennon said there was “nothing at the minute” regarding transfer activity but explained: “I’m hoping to add to the squad, there’s no question of that. Sometimes these things take a bit of time.”

Reports from Greece suggest that Celtic are deep in discussions to sign Vasilios Barkas from AEK Athens but the door hasn’t yet been closed on another move for Fraser Forster.

Moi Elyounoussi has returned for another season on loan but with Jonny Hayes released and Mikey Johnston injured the Southampton winger has the left wing virtually to himself.

By this stage last season Chris Jullien, Boli Bolingoli and Hatem Abd Elhamed had all been signed.

Tomorrow Celtic face Hibs in a closed door friendly which will feature the current B team with Leigh Griffiths likely to be involved.
