Vasilis Barkas is on his way to Scotland with his move to Celtic expected to be confirmed on Wednesday according to Greek reporter Giannis Chorianopoulos.

News of Celtic’s interest in the AEK Athens keeper has all come from the Greek END with Sportime.gr forming an accurate timeline of negotiations. A three year contract has been agreed with the player with the option of a further year.

According to Greek reports a 5m euro initial fee has been agreed between the two clubs with a further 1m due dependent on other factors.

Fraser Forster was clearly Celtic’s first choice but equally getting anywhere close to the terms remaining on the two years of his Southampton contract wasn’t realistic.

Barkas has been playing for AEK since mid June so should be ahead of the Celtic squad in terms of fitness. Although he has 10 caps for Greece he was born and brought up in Holland and is believed to have a good grasp on English.
