Alfredo Morelos has jumped onto Lazio’s short list of strikers!
The Sun has followed up on a story from a little known Italian website that has been completely ignored by the major Italian publishers.
With one goal in 2020 overshadowed by suspensions from UEFA, the SFA and his own club Morelos is the definition of damaged goods with numerous rounds of transfer speculation failing to produce a single bid.
Italy seems to be the main focus of attention this summer with an agent for the striker trying to link him with Lazio, previously there was a report that a club in Qatar was ‘weighing up’ a £15m bid. They seem to be stalling on a decision.
Now The Sun reports:
LAZIO have put Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos on a summer striker shortlist. The Italian giants are keen to land a top hitman ahead of the new Serie A season.
Ibrox star Morelos has emerged as a potential £20million target for boss Simone Inzaghi. Watford’s Luis Suarez and Crystal Palace’s Alexander Sorloth are also on Lazio’s radar.
But Italian sources have confirmed that sporting director Igli Tare is impressed by Morelos. The Colombian is joint top scorer in the Europa League with six, having also netted eight in qualifiers.
Morelos scored 12 goals in the SPFL, the same amount as Hibs hitman Chris Doidge who wasn’t sent off against Motherwell or Celtic. The Colombian’s last SPFL goal was on December 26.
Despite his lack of domestic goals the Colombian is essential to Steven Gerrard’s title hopes with Jermain Defoe the only other striker at the club.
Since losing last season’s title Andy Halliday, Sheyi Ojo, Florian Kamberi, Jon Flanagan, Jordan Rossiter and Matt Polster have left Gerrard’s squad.
Brandon Barker, Greg Stewart and Jordan Jones remain on long term deals.
