Since 9am this morning their conspiracy theories had been in overdrive- at 6pm tonight on Super Scoreboard they were given the opportunity to broadcast the most amazing claims.

Caller after caller explained how the SPFL Premiership fixtures had been rigged, the personal creation of Peter Lawwell who seems to have complete control over all of Scottish football.

The truth is it’s only in the minds of the Gullible and Deluded that the Celtic CEO has any influence.

A succession of true blue Rangers men have promised the earth, watched the fans chuck money at the company with just the 2016 Petrofac Cup to show for their loyalty.

In June 2017 Dave King was proclaimed a hero for getting rid of Mike Ashley- at the AGM five months later shareholders discovered a £3m pay-off to Sports Direct with a new contract in place.

Last month another new dawn was proclaimed by the new regime at Ibrox, over the last week it has become crystal clear that Ashley still controls all matters retail at their club.

Rather than call out King, Douglas Park, James Bisgrove and others for their accumulated failures it is easier to turn on the bogey man of Lawwell for their clubs’ four years of top flight failure.

Back to back defeats from Hearts and Hamilton, both bottom of the league at the time escape criticism as Steven Gerrard attempts his annual rebuilding job.

Hugh Keevins and Allison Conroy tried their best to calm the callers down with old fashioned logic, however each caller just inspired another moon-howler to call up and add their own particular conspiracy to the mix.
