Celtic are hoping to arrange a Behind Closed Doors match with Hibs at Celtic Park on Monday.

The hoops were expecting to play Dundalk on Saturday, when that fell through Plan B of facing Derry City also proved impossible sparking a search to find another match before the SPFL opener at home to Hamilton on Sunday August 2.

Video Celts understands that a home game with Hibs is close to being confirmed which will provide Neil Lennon’s A team with a dress rehearsal for the match against Hamilton.

A friendly is already in place against Motherwell at Celtic Park for Sunday but that is aimed at the ‘B’ team which started against Lyon last Saturday.

After three games in France over five days the squad has had a crash course in matches after a 131 days break, the double header against Motherwell and Hibs will allow Lennon to fine tune his plans for the start of the competitive action.

Following the Hamilton match there is a free week before the action heats up with Kilmarnock, St Mirren and Aberdeen faced over seven days before the first round Champions League qualifier on August 18 or 19.
