Southampton are looking to unload Fraser Forster according to a report in The Express.

The keeper had an outstanding season on loan at Celtic but hopes or a repeat move seemed killed off soon after he returned to St Mary’s at the end of June.

Forster had two years left on his Southampton contract but had drifted to third choice behind Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy when he moved to Celtic last August.

Rounding up Southampton’s likely close season activity The Express reports:

Saints will also look to unload several other players this summer, with defenders Wesley Hoedt and Jannik Vestergaard, goalkeeper Fraser Forster, midfielder Mario Lemina and striker Guido Carilla all set to be made available in the clear out.

Various theories have been put forward for the breakdown in another Celtic loan deal with Neil Lennon going public with his disappointment.

Significantly, despite strong speculation linking Celtic with moves for David Marshall and Joe Hart, the hoops haven’t yet signed another goalkeeper to compete with Scott Bain.

Over the last few days there have been strong reports from Greece that Celtic are negotiating with AEK Athens to sign Vassilis Barkas.

Whether that deal is close to going through or being used to push through a deal with Southampton remains to be seen.
