Celtic fans will have to subscribe to Sky Sports to watch the SPFL opener against Hamilton and the October 17 Glasgow derby.

UPDATE… UPDATE… UPDATE…

The news was broken by Radio Clyde tonight shortly after the deadline had passed for Celtic fans to renew Season Tickets. When the virtual deal was announced it was stated that they would be exclusive to Season Ticket holders.

Sky Sports have an exclusive deal to screen SPFL matches for the next five seasons with their broadcast matches not being made available to Season Ticket holders.

In previous deals broadcasters were only allowed to screen four home matches of any club per season with the two Glasgow derbies the obvious choice plus two other matches.

A large number of fans will already be subscribing to Sky Sports, who will show live virtually every away match, but there will be fans who bought a Season Ticket believing that it would be the only way to watch home SPFL matches.

Celtic’s August home matches against Aberdeen and Motherwell won’t be on Sky allowing Virtual Season Ticket holder exclusive access.
