Andy Walker has claimed that Odsonne Edouard is a future French internationalist- but not worth £40m.

The Celtic striker is clearly the most sought after player in Scotland but every hoops fan will be hoping that he sees out his fourth season in Glasgow.

Apart from a two month stint alongside Leigh Griffiths last season Edouard has effectively been Celtic’s sole striker over the last two seasons.

Bringing in another tried and tested striker is a priority for Neil Lennon but at the back of his mind there is the concern that a replacement may be needed for Edouard.

Over the last two seasons Celtic have sold Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney for record transfer fees with their star striker the player most likely to extend that sequence.

Transfer speculation will run for almost two more months with Walker sharing his views with Sky Sports:

The standout performer from the first weekend was Odsonne Edouard, and Neil Lennon’s biggest hope is that he’s still a Celtic player when the transfer window closes. I’ve got to say, I have my doubts, because I think he’s good enough to play for a top six club in England who have the money to tempt him,” Walker said.

We talk a lot about how much players in Scotland are worth. This is a guy who is 22 and will probably go on and play for the French national team. I watch a lot of football in England, and I’ve seen Joelinton at Newcastle, who cost £40m, and 100 per cent Odsonne Edouard is a better player. I’m not suggesting Celtic will hold out for £40m, but he is that good.

After a season on loan Edouard signed a four year contract with Celtic in the summer of 2018.
