Vakoun Bayo is back on St Mirren’s transfer radar.

At the January deadline day Jim Goodwin tried to take the striker to Paisley but was turned down by Celtic as the Paisley boss told BBC Scotland on February 1.

Bayo would be a fantastic signing for us but Neil Lennon wants to run with four strikers and Bayo is part of his plans and that’s where that one ends.

Lennon is in the market for another striker, late on Saturday night STV tweeted:

Eighteen months after joining Celtic Bayo has only made a handful of appearances and seems no closer to claiming a first team place.

Last August he was selected ahead of Leigh Griffiths to face Hearts and although the SPFL denied him two goals it did seem that he was ready to make a contribution.

Injuries, the return of Griffiths and the signing of Patryk Klimala have pushed Bayo to a distant fourth place at Celtic amid ongoing interest in Albian Ajeti and Ivan Toney.

Bayo is under contract with Celtic until December 2022.
