Celtic are reported to have made an offer to sign Omar Colley from Sampdoria.

The 27-year-old played more matches in central defence than anyone else at Sampdoria and would be a highly ambitious move if he was convinced to join Celtic, initially on loan.

Earlier in the week the same Italian publication linked Celtic with an interest in Sampdoria right-back Bartosz Bereszynski.

That source would suggest that the stories are coming out of Sampdoria with Celtic’s plans likely to be reigned in after being knocked out of the Champions League by Ferencvaros.

Without the lure of Champions League football it would take an incredible financial offer to tempt anyone from Serie A to up sticks and move to Scotland.

Picking up on a report from Italy the Daily Record reports:

Celtic have made an opening offer to prise defender Omar Colley away from Sampdoria – according to a report.

Italian newspaper Secolo XIX report the Hoops have proposed a deal that will see a £1.8m loan fee paid for an initial season.

The club would then have an obligation to complete the transfer with a further payment of £5.8m needed from the Neil Lennon’s side to complete the deal.

Negotiations are likely to continue as the Serie A club want up to £9.8m for the tough-tackling Gambia international.

With a tentative enquiry made to Brighton for Shane Duffy Celtic are clearly in the market for a central defender with the numbers one down following the departure of Jozo Simunovic.

According to Transfermarkt Colley has two years left to run on his Sampdoria contract.
